Sep 18, 2018 - 10 Best Google Chrome Alternatives. Mozilla Firefox Quantum. There used to be a time when Google Chrome had clear speed advantages over other browsers and hence it was hard to recommend any other browser despite its faults. Microsoft Edge. Torch Browser. Epic Privacy Browser. Google made good headway this year by improving Android app support and adding tons of useful features to Chrome OS. That being said, the company's operating system is the least mature of this. Mark -- In your last post/rant on this subject, you were advised that there is something else wrong, other than Safari. Now it appears that Firefox doesn't work well either. Instead of wasting time finding more browsers, why don't you seriously give us more information and participate in finding your solution. I'm on Comcast, and have never had any problems. I can run Safari, Firefox, Chrome and Opera on here perfectly. I'm assuming your ISP is Comcast, as well. Questions for you: 1. What antivirus programs do you have on there? What 'fixer/cleaner' apps do you have? Have you ever checked your Font Book app for duplicate fonts? Do you have Flip4Mac installed? It runs wmv's like a champ. Little -- Very nice list. Hopefully we can identify his real problem so he can run any browser he wants.;). Yeah, sorry about that, I've never been very good at troubleshooting a mac, because up until this year, I've NEVER had trouble with one! To answer your questions. Only the OSX built in firewall, no antivirus, never have used any, never have gotten one (that I know of!) plus the security features of the wireless router. No fixer/cleaner apps at all that I'm aware of (unless some malware installed a hidden one.not that malware writers go around coding things to help!) 3. I am always in my fontbook adding and deactivating for whatever project I'm currently working on. I have over 6000 fonts and no duplicates. I use Suitcase to keep them tidy. I did notice today, after you mentioned it and I checked them again, that three fonts were displaying corrupt characters in the WYSIWYG pallete. I have deactivated them and will see if that helps. I have version 2.3.6.5 of Flip4Mac installed. I have also done a clean install of Safari, twice. Freeze top row and first column excel for mac 2016. I've also done a clean system install ( I just recently bought the Mac Boxed Set with 10.6 and got the latest updates to 10.6.6 also) I also installed a completely clean system on a secondary HD, installed all my apps fresh, downloaded and installed all the updates for them, and put that brand new hard drive into my macbook (without transferring over a single document, picture, photoshop plug-in, etc). I still got the same views of the same webpages even when manually entering the URL. I feel like I just wasted two weeks doing all this. It's honestly got me baffled. I had no problems with any browsing up until OS 10.4.11. It was only after the upgrade to 10.6 that I began having trouble viewing some sites. For some reason, selecting the older version of Safari in the Develop module, which has solved the problem for others, has had no effect on the problem for me. Mark -- I hope we can help you get to the bottom of this. First off, with 6000 fonts, you really ought to get rid of Font Book all together. It's really meant for the average home user, with less than 200 or so fonts. Having, and using, two Font Managers simultaneously is an accident begging to happen. Have you ever seen this FAQ by Kurt Lang on fonts in OSX? It's brilliant. Note his advice on Font Managers. Has Safari ever actually crashed? If so, the crash report could be very helpful to us. Go to Applications > Utilities, and open the Console. Open 'Crash Reporter' Look for the most recent Safari crash log. Copy & paste the entire log in your next response, OK? 'and who mentioned speed? ' Safari will pre-cache but only with 64 bit. Pre-caching is to make the loading of pages seem faster. ----- I have no plugins, no enhancements, no 3rd party apps to OS X or Safari. Safari would hang (beachball) daily on various sites like yahoo and when have multiple tabs and switch from one tab to another tab. Firefox and Camino would not beachball at the same sites. After changing to 32 bit, 3 days so far and not one beachball, I see no difference in performance with 32 bit and everything works, Hulu, Yahoo, MSNBC, my bank and investment sites. So far no problem as I had when set at 64 bit.
